The best films of Roman Polanski

The Fearless Vampire Killers (1967)

Fearless Vampire Killers is an extremely funny and at the same time elegant film that is a parody of horror conventions. Written not for the first time, with Gerard Bracht. Roman Polanski, like Alfred, must save his fiancee, played by Sharon Tate, from extremely charming homosexual vampires. Tate was still a relatively unknown actress when her feelings for the director flourished on the set of this film. The filmmakers themselves had a great time, as Polanski recalls, they were constantly laughing. And you can feel it while watching the movie.

Rosemary's Baby (1968)

Oscar nomination for the book by Ira Levin. In Polanski's version, the story received an additional interpretation stemming from Polanski's agnostic beliefs. The life of a young couple changes when, upon entering the apartment, they strengthen their contacts with their neighbors, followers of Lucifer. One of the most recognizable roles of Mia Farrow, who was accompanied by the creator of independent cinema John Cassavetes, was included in this occult film about the devil's pact. Notable, however, is the excellent Ruth Gordon, who won the Oscar for Best Supporting Actor. The character of Satan, who appeared momentarily in one of the film's most recognizable scenes, was played by Anton LaVey, known as the Black Pope, the head of the sect of the Church of Satan, initially only to act as the director's "adviser" on occult matters. Farrow's wonderful lullaby was written by Krzysztof Komeda.

Chinatown (1974)

As Polanski writes: "I wanted to make a film about the 30s, seen through the eyes of today's camera. I wanted to recreate the world and era of Dashiella Hammett and Raymond Chandler, but with an accurate reconstruction of the scenery, costumes and language." And it succeeded, as evidenced by the fact that the film was nominated for an Oscar in as many as eleven categories. In this style of detective cinema in a noir atmosphere, we can admire Jacek Nicholson and Faye Dunaway. The collaboration between the actress and the director was not the easiest: Dunaway accused Polanski of not giving her any hints, but he could not stand her "pathological" concern about appearance. The most famous joke from the set is probably the story of how the director pulled out an actress sticking out a lock of hair.

The Tenant (1976)

Filming of Roland Topor's chimera tenant. The main character, Trelkovsky, is a susceptible paranoid suffering from delusions of persecution. He believes that the new neighbors want to lead him to suicide, which happened to the previous tenant who inhabited the hero's apartment. Illusions gradually take over Trelkovsky, and we, the audience, perceive the world represented by his visions. Being thrown into a mental reality, we experience the disintegration of personality together with him. In the film, we can see Polanski's excellent acting and the interesting role of Isabella Adjani. Tenant is Polanski's first feature film shot in France. Débuter dans l'univers des paris sportifs devient bien plus intéressant lorsqu'un avantage financier conséquent vous est offert.
